Who are we?
Born and raised in England, I always wanted to see the world. Desperate for the opportunity, I tried and failed to get various globetrotting positions including photographer, DJ and croupier. After realising there was another way I trained to be an ESL teacher. For the last ten years, I have been an English teaching professional, improving English to students young and old. I loved it and I finally got to live out my dream.
After many years of living across the world, my wife and I decided to make Valencia our home. Like most of us, the desire to settle down had finally hit me. I have always enjoyed writing and taking photos. Now, after a lot of days and nights of planning I have decided to combine my passion for the city with my creative side on this website. For now I am combining the day job with this website. Please bear with me as I populate the site with the thousand and one things I want to share with you about life here.
Where are we?
We are based in the heart of Valencia. I love where we live, located close enough to walk to the action but quiet enough to be able to enjoy peace and quiet at home. Located on the shores of the Mediterranean on the east coast of The Iberian Peninsula, we immediately fell for this remarkable and endlessly engaging city. Founded by The Romans in 138 B.C. Valencia has over 2000 years of history. I have been fortunate to live around the world but it is Valencia where I decided to lay down roots.
Nowadays Valencia is famous for many things. Most people will know its year round sunny climate or its long beaches or perhaps being the birthplace of Spain’s national dish Paella. Upon arriving we realised the truth that these facts don’t scratch the surface on life here. Valencia is Spain’s third biggest city, somehow combining big city vibes with small city convenience. It’s Modern, exciting, cosmopolitan yet also traditional and historic and I love it. I am sure that you will too.
Why The Inside Guide?
We are here to help you make the most of your time in Valencia, be it three nights or three years. No matter what your plans, our aim is to be an essential resource for English speakers who want to know Valencia better. Whether you are an armchair traveller or planning your next visit, we want to create content for you. You might also be considering moving here or have already taken the plunge. We have been through that and we want to help you with that process.
The mission of The Inside Guide is to be more than just a showcase of Valencia’s biggest and most well known attractions but also shining a light on the smaller, local sites. After all, it’s often the smaller things that really make a place. We hope to impart the kind of info that only an insider would know. This is why we called our little website The Inside Guide. We truly hope that you find it useful. I was not born a tech-whizz but I am learning. Please check back again soon for more content and new features.
