UK Shoegaze stars bdrmm coming to Valencia
Hailing from Hull in the North of England, bdrmm are touring Europe with four dates in Spain. Originally labelled a shoegaze band, the group have had both critical acclaim from across the music press as well as considerable support from giants Mogwai and Ride. It doesn’t take long to listen to their sound and understand why. This is music made to make your heart skip a beat and it’s glorious.
Despite its somewhat misleading name I love shoegaze. Never mind looking at the floor, for me it’s akin to looking out at a great vista with the wind hitting your face. The music that bdrmm creates is somehow ethereal, psychedelic and uplifting all at the same time. While the band can quite comfortably pull off the shoegaze sound, namely swirling guitar sounds, sunken vocals and hypnotic drum patterns it is fair to say that can also do an awful lot more. Promoters of Valencia take note, if you put on more gigs like this, I shall come!
Two incredible albums
Their 2020 album Bedroom was released while the world was in lockdown. It created a lot more than a splash with the NME naming it an instant shoegaze classic. For me it was an album that encapsulated those difficult days. It pays homage to genre greats like Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine but somehow stills fresh and unique. This is not your typical debut album and is much more akin to the assurance of seasoned veterans who have honed their craft.
After such a standout debut album, the band had plenty of options on which record label to release their second album with. They decided on Mogwai’s Rock Action imprint. The second album doesn’t rest on their laurels and has a very different feel. Rather than just repeat the old successful formula, the band have added electronic elements and created something new. It’s a beautiful, optimistic follow up album that is not afraid of doing something new. The soundscape is rich and will sound incredible live.
A proper Valencia venue.
The gig takes place in the Loco Club, one of Valencia’s best venues for alternative live music. For me it hits the sweet spot of intimacy and noise with a capacity for 300 lucky souls. Located just off Gran Via, it’s located really close to Ángel Guimerá metro station or is a few mins walk from the centre. If you like live music you really should check it out and perhaps there is no better time with bdrmm in town.

Doors open 20:30 bdrmm will be supported by Gazella from Valencia. Tickets available here.
